Appeals / Rhetoric

Appeals are what a specific text is trying to use to appeal to something in their reader, e.g. appeal to their sense of tradition; self-interest; fear; symphaty etcetera.

Types of Appeals

• Logos (Logic & Reason)
• Pathos (Values or Emotion )
• Ethos (Credibility / Authority)
• Kairos (Opportunity & Urgency)
• Topos (Motif or “prior familiarity”)
